A couple months ago I grew very tired of picking up 30 books at the end of the day. Not to mention the condition of some of Cole's books from having fallen 2 feet everyday for several months. I finally decided to attempt to put a stop to it. One day Cole started his usual book pulling rituals and I stopped him after the first book. I told him he could only have one book at a time and we had to read the one he threw on the floor. I sat him in my lap, we read the story, and then I showed him how to put it back on the shelf and pick another. It didn't take more than one afternoon to get Cole into the new habit. For a long while he was very good about putting each book back before choosing another. Now we are getting a bit lax with the new rule, but he still doesn't abuse the books. He may take out 2 or 3 at a time, but never the whole shelf! Way to go Cole.
Early on in July (July 11th to be exact) Cole began doing something new with his books. He still enjoys being read to but on the 11th he started 'reading' to himself. Not just flipping through the pages but actually sat down and babbled out loud. I managed to get him on video!!! You will notice in the video all the books on the floor. July 11th was also the last day Cole was permitted to pull all the books down. July 12th was the day we started reading one at a time. :)
