Mommy's Big Day

Hello Everyone! I'd like to introduce myself to you-I'm Cole's mommy! This is my Blog debut. :) I love the fact that my hubby started this blog all on his own nine months ago and has done a FANTASTIC job keeping it up! I love checking it periodically and seeing what has been going through Adrien's mind and now, seeing what has been going on in my new son's life. Yesterday and last night a few things happened that I feel need to be shared with all of you and I'm not so sure Adrien will or can share them. So, this brings me to my first, and probably not last, blog post.

Yesterday, Monday, April 19th (Cole's due date by the way), was supposed to be Daddy's first day back to work. I was a little nervous to be home all day without Adrien but we had been mentally preparing for this day all weekend. Adrien said to me, "this is the first day of your new career". My big day; nervous as I was, I was ready!! (I did point out to him that I had actually started my career as a mommy the week before. He informed me I had only been on sick leave that week.) :) We were going to take things a little slower than normal and he was set to leave around 11:00 AM rather than 9:30. A little before 11:00, Cole was hungry, so being the good Mommy that I am, I fed my son. Much to my surprise (NOT) Adrien says, "I'll burp him, then I'll go." So, he does just that; he burps our little man for a VERY long time. After their cuddle session, we see EYES! This is a rare occurrence still, so we were very excited. Adrien had done some floor time with Cole on Sunday during his brief period of wakefulness and said I should try it so I let Adrien teach me how to lie on the floor with my boy, face to face. It was a very precious, and yet very short, time together. Needless to say, Daddy stayed to watch and photograph. Around noon, I decided to eat lunch and then it was nap time for me. Cole was sound asleep in his Pack n Play so no worries. I would sleep on the couch to be near to him. Daddy decided to stay to keep an eye out while I napped.:) Before I carry on too much longer, I'll just say-this is how the day progressed. By the time Adrien was really ready to go work, there was no point! He would've been turning around to come home 2 hours after he'd left! During this afternoon of is Daddy or isn't Daddy working today, Adrien noticed during a diaper change that Cole's umbilical cord was only hanging on by a "thread". I've been very anxious for this crusty thing to fall off because it's quite annoying having to diaper around it, making sure it's not wet, etc. However, when I looked at what the belly button behind the cord looked like, I FREAKED OUT! There was oozy stuff and a big hole, no scab! I began reading every book we had trying to find out if the oozy stuff was normal. Let me reassure you all, it is. It didn't matter to me! I was grossed out and very apprehensive of being left alone to tend to the belly should the umbilical cord fall off while Daddy was out. I believe Adrien stayed home to protect me from the big scary umbilical cord. :) I guess Cole and I will have our Big Day on Tuesday instead. (Just FYI, it is Tuesday, and Adrien did go to work this morning!!!)

Cole kept wiggling and scooting until he was laying sideways on me. :)
