We were invited to attend a field trip with a bunch of families from our church who are homeschooling their kids. I knew Adrien wouldn't be able to go with us so I hemmed and hawed for a little while but decided to be brave and just do it. I was mostly concerned about how involved I would be able to be with Cole during the trip while having to see to Ayla. We went a dairy farm called Fair Oaks Farm. It was just about as stressful as I had anticipated it would be but overall Cole had a good time so I'm glad we went. We got to jump on a "bounce pillow", watch a calf being born!!!, experience a 3D/4D movie, and take a bus ride through the milking barn and watch the cows go around a merry-go-round type machine to be milked. THen we enjoyed lunch purchased at the cafe-grilled cheese sandwiches made with their DELICIOUS cheddar cheese and ice cream (we got a discount rate on the ice cream because of the school group rate).
Jumping on the pillow-he had a blast!
More jumping. A few of the older kids we know from church were so great with Cole. They were a big help to me!
A man came out to help deliver the calf. Basically he pulled it right out of the mother cow. Thank goodness really; we sat there for about ten minutes just watching the cow calmly push prior to this man making his appearance.
He then dragged the calf up by the mother's head. Partly so we could see the calf better and so she would be able to start cleaning the baby. We didn't get to see that part as she was not very interested in her mothering duties.
Bus ride with his friend Benji! I was sitting in the row behind them nursing Ayla. (Definitely not easy to find places to do that at a dairy farm!!)
Baby cows basking in the sun. :)
That' is SOOO cool and fun!
