The day after Cole's birthday we had scrambled eggs for breakfast. Seeing as he was now one year old he was allowed to eat eggs so we gave him a small taste. He seemed to like it and he didn't have a reaction so we filed that info away for a later date. Three days later I decided that Cole must be sick of eating oatmeal every day so I made him a little omelet-1 egg and some cheddar cheese (HE LOVES CHEESE! or jeez as he calls it). Cole ate almost the entire thing. Nana happened to be there that morning and was noticing some small red marks appearing around Cole's mouth. I asked her to keep an eye on it and over the course of 10 minutes, Cole's entire face was covered in little red bumps. Being the allergy specialists Adrien, Nana, and I are we deduced that Cole had hives. I called his pediatrician office; the nurse told me to give him Benedryl but she wanted to check the dosage so she'd call me right back. In the three minutes it took for her to call back Cole's entire body was covered. I didn't even have to tell her this, as soon as I answered the phone she told me the doctor wanted us to take him straight to the ER because hives is a severe reaction to food. Adrien, Nana, Cole, and I all piled in the car and away we went. Luckily our ER is basically in our neighborhood. I was envisioning the ER being like it is on TV. People speed walking everywhere, irate patients having to wait forever, and Cole being miserable while we were ignored. NOT SO! We walked through the door to a very nice young man, smiling at us with a clipboard asking us how he could help us. All I had to do was hold Cole up to his face and he was in motion. Within an hour of arriving Cole had been hooked up to a monitor, given a dose of Benedryl, thrown up his eggs all over himself and his daddy, and fallen asleep. We were amazed at how quickly the Benedryl began to work. Our instructions now are to avoid eggs for another year and we have to take Cole to an allergy specialist. Adrien took a few pictures of Cole on his cell phone (which I felt bad about at the time) so now we have the memory for life. Enjoy??

Just arrived to our room and waiting for the nurse to come.
You can sort of see the small red bumps on Cole's upper thigh.
(The bruises on his shin are from crawling!)
Notice his bumpy face.
:( This one makes me sad.
Post Benedryl. The lighter areas on his face are the spots that began clearing up first.
Knocked out but at least his body was reacting quickly.
Also, notice the wardrobe change. Cole vomited all over his PJ's
so we were given an infant hospital gown for him to wear-so cute!
